The r/SideProject Launch Guide: How to Get Your First 10 Customers
r/SideProject is one of the best subreddits for indie hackers. The community is generally supportive of builders and loves to give feedback on early-stage products.
But you still need a strategy to stand out from the dozens of projects posted every day.
1. The "Solo Builder" Angle
Don't act like a big company. Act like a person.
- Bad: "Announcing the launch of our new AI platform."
- Good: "I got tired of doing manual data entry at my job, so I spent the last 3 weekends building this simple tool to automate it. It's live now!"
2. Show the Product (No Landing Page)
Redditors are lazy. They don't want to click a link to your landing page to see what your app does.
- The Playbook: Record a 30-second screen share of you using the tool and upload the video directly to Reddit. Put the link to your site in the comments. This increases engagement by 10x.
3. Offer a "Reddit Only" Discount
Give the community a reason to buy now. Offer a discount code specifically for r/SideProject users.
- Tip: "Use code REDDIT50 for 50% off. Only making 20 codes available for the community."
Be human. Show your work.
